Default crankshaft pulley

Hi Forum

Had my RX300 inspected today. They said I should get the crankshaft pulley replaced
as there is a squeaking noise coming from it.

Is the crankshaft pulley something that can cause a catastrophic failure if it fails
(ie timing belt or other belts)? Does that thing EVER fail? Never heard of that happening.

Thanks!

Inspected by who? If something is 'squeaking' it is most likely either the alternator or one of the idler pulley bearings or the water pump.

Yes, crank shaft pulley can develop crack and can fall apart. I would not run the engine till it is replaced. The pulley can pack lot of rotational energy and can cause immense damage.

JAB's concern about proper diagnostics are well founded too.
