general maintenance tips?
i was hoping there is somewhere that lists general maintenance tips or we could start a thread. similar to DIY, but less restorative and more preventative type work. for instance, i replaced my timing belt assembly last year, and saw some products in the store that help lubricate the belts. i learned recently that tires need to be lubricated to prevent dry rot (a little late for me), so using that logic i'm inferring that these belt lubricants could actually be useful. so i hope people can share simple tips on which parts to maintain and which products to use that will ultimately prolong the life of your parts and save costly repair work.
if any CL vet wants to take over this thread please do as i'm still new here and learning.

The Lexus maintenance schedule pretty much covers all the items and frequency things should be looked at or replaced.
Those tire dressings and belt lubricants are mostly for aesthetic purposes and/or a band-aid to address noise. Often they attack the rubber and cause the parts to fail earlier if used for pre-emptive purposes.

If you follow the scheduled maint. [Time and milage] you would NOT need to do additional bandaids. If you use non OEM parts then you may need to do adjustment ... like synthetic oil gets you more milage between replacement. So if you go non-OEM do your homework.
The above does assume there is no other failure ,,, these are machines and things do fail.
