Default key programming issues

I have one key fob. It starts the car so I assume it is a master key. It will not program to lock/unlock the doors. I followed some instructions found online and the car does all the right things but when I press the key fob buttons it does nothing but flash its light.

do these cars use different frequency fobs or what else do I look for?

A valet key will also start the car.

It's a key with the three buttons on it.

Was reading somewhere they are very sensitive to voltage so I'll check the battery this evening.

There are visual clues but in reality it is the captured magnetic signature in the ecu that determines which key is the master key.

When the initial purchase of the vehicle happens, you get 2 master keys (black shell- 3buttons), a valet key (grey shell) and back in '99 a flat key without magnetic tag-along (only to enter the vehicle).

What happens afterwards is only known to who has the original/duplicate keys.

if you key is putting out a good red light on pressing any key, then your key battery is good.

If you are not having any starting problems then your RX battery is good.

Please post your problem in the thread where you have read the instructions to program the keys.
