New remote key without original?
Greetings. I recently bought a used 2001 Toyota Harrier (Lexus RX300) but was only given 2 valet keys. I would like to get a master/remote key to be able remotely lock and unlock the vehicle. Is it possible to buy and program a remote key without having the original master key available? If so, how?

When I got my RX it only had 1 key. The dealer said it was a valet key that I needed to buy a master at some high $ price he would do that for me but they had to reboot the system and would take days to do.
I did research, don't remember if it was on this forum or not, but came across some place that tells if it is a master key or not.
When you get in your car, the red blinking light for the alarm is blinking, when you put your key into the ignition (without turning the ignition) and the blinking light stops blinking, that is a master key and you can program another key with that one..
I programmed another key with that key and it works fine too.
I just don't have a key with a remote...yet..
The dealer only considers a key with the remote a "Master Key" even though the keys I have do everything (roll down or up all the windows from the lock outside). Everything but have the remote.

What you can do is get the ECU flashed, then train it to recognize new master keys. A "master key" has nothing do to with what it opens, but it has everything to do with the ECU recognizing it as a master, which will then let you program new keys.(okay, yeah, a master should open all locks, but in the scheme of things that's minor).
