Default stupid computers + keys...

so here is my problem: 01' GS300

first, I had 2 Keys. i had a grey key without the remote control on it (limited access for valet parking basically). and 1 regular key w/ remote. I then dropped the regular key one to many times i guess but basically i wouldnt unleck lock pop truck panic nothing. I changed the battery still nothing. I go to lexus in my home town and they inform me the key is toast so i buy i new key + get it cut of course. I ask the guy to program it for me he says he CAN'T because i would need another key with the remote on it to do that. So now i paid for a new key so i can listen to the radio!! this sucks is there anyway other than buying a whole new key/ignition computer??

biggest pain in the a$$ EVER!

i guess no one has had this issue.. which makes it even that much more of a pain haha

they said something like 2,000 for a comp and ignition. could i just get an after market alarm to lock unlock the doors? then have my regular key to drive?

I don't think the programming sequence for a new transponder requires that the buttons actually work on the currently-programmed transponder. Look up the procedure for programming a new remote to see if it requires button presses from the old master. If it doesn't, you should easily be able to program the new key/remote yourself.

You will need a key with a functioning transponder to program another key. A functioning transponder is involved in the first part of the sequence. I don't remember the sequence to program the key, but I do remember having to put my old key in the ignition...doing something...taking it out....then putting the new unprogrammed key in and completing the process.

Good luck.

Right - what I should have mentioned is that if the master key can start the car, that means the transponder is working.

But I also wonder if the Valet (grey) key's transponder will work to program a new key in...
