Woe is me....
Several years ago I bought a 2001 RX300 repair manual on a CD. Other than having cryptic abbreviations in its table of contents, it was great. I'm fairly sure it was a legitimate product because of the way it was made and labelled. Well, it has disappeared and I don't see one of these for sale any more. Are those gone? The factory books are quite pricey and I have no experience with the recent Haynes/Clymer/Chilton school of manuals, other than hearing that they aren't too good. Any comments on those? Any source of "real" manuals, either paper or CD?

Check ebay, craigslist, sell.com and ioffer.com. You may have more luck using google ("craigslist, RX300 repair manual" than the site search engines!). If your interest is primarily mechanical systems, you could get the Toyota Highlander manual (most of the mechanical is identical to the RX but some of the electrical is a little different).

Please look up the sticky RX300 megathread .. having problems start here.
There should be a pointer to alldata (or some thing like that) where you pay for access to the most current information.
Anything on CD is most likely non-legit and lift/scan of the actual manuals.

I'm almost 100% sure the CD was legit. Way too professionally done. Anyway, it is gone.
The version of the repair manual on the 2001 CD was RM784U. Through the assistance of some kind people, I have located some other versions, but I'd really like to find this version. The number referenced here is printed on the bottom of the page. It seems there is a lot of variation between versions! The U is for USA the E is for european. I now have a 2003 RM961U and an unknown year RM785E.
Thanks to those of you who pointed me toward the other versions!

Luckily, the CD turned up in a rarely used computer. And regarding its legitimacy, it says it is an Automotive Service Association Shop Copy... Thanks to those of you who sent me encouraging messages!!

Just to clarify, when we talk about 'legit', we are talking about copy right material published by Lexus (Toyota) Corp as an entity that can be directly sold/purchased from Lexus (Toyota) authorized retailer/seller.
There is grey market where the original merchandise is copied/scanned and resold.
That said the copy-rights laws are changing [recent case of Google scanning published books].
Here in Club Lexus we have to stay above board. I hope every one understands this position.

The disc is so well labeled and printed that it is missing a bet if it isn't legit. I believe I bought it about seven years ago. And if I remember correctly, Toyota was more tolerant of independent sales like this at that time. At any rate, it is certainly useful, especially as I'm on my second 2001 RX300!
