OBDII scanner problems
I just purchased a new D900 Autel scanner and it will not communicate with my 2001 RX300. Has anyone else had this problem? Am I doing something wrong? I hook it up and then turn the key to 'on'. I select Lexus (even tried Toyota), it checks all five protocols and says it can't communicate. The scanner works fine on the wife's '02 Saturn.

Were it me, before I knocked myself out trying out the new D900, I'd ask the local parts store guys to scan my codes for free. If their scanner communicates ok then at least you know there is nothing wrong with the RX.
If that checks out email Autel and see if there is a new firmware or similar for your D900.

I tried the scanner on another '01 RX300 and it would not work on that one either. I have a friend who says he'll buy it for himself.
Now... Does anyone know of a reasonably priced scanner that will work on an '01 RX300? I paid $35 for this one which seems to work well otherwise.

I personally have a BAFX bluetooth scanner and I love it. It's Using it with an 2002 AWD right now.
The great thing is that if you have an android, you can sync it and use it with the Torque app (free). If not, you can use it with a computer. It allows you to check & clear codes, as well as see live data from any of the supported sensors.
It's plug and forget, you can leave it plugged in. The drain is minimal, I left it in for 3-4 days without starting the car and had no problem starting afterwards.
