Power antenna replacement options?

Power antenna replacement options?
If you were to decide to delete the power antenna and go with a 5" powered amp mast how hard would that be?
I have a 98 4Runner with the "Tacoma antenna mod" that puts a standard antenna on the vehicle. I have a 09 4Runner that does not have an antenna, it's all in the glass. Lastly I have a 2013 4Runner that has a factory solid mast antenna. The later two make me think Toyota figured out power antennas should go away, so is there a way to make ours go away?
Toyota actually makes a part number for a 5.5" stubby antenna if I recall correctly, the hard question is what mast do you use in-place of the powered one.
