Heavier Gear Lube
Hello All,
My current situation is: In my '01 RX-300, there is a slow drip in the rear(driver side diff seal) of the differential.
My question is:
Before fixing this leak/seal, can I use a heavier wgt of Diff Gear Lube? I am currently using Syn Mobil 1 75w90 LS which is now leaking. I have already been using the Syn M1 75w90 since my 1st D&F several yrs ago when I dumped the OE gear lube. But, after this D&F this past summer(using the M1 again) the differential decided it wants to leak... IDKY! It was only damp around the driverside shaft seal prior but, did not drip!
I also changed(D&F) the TC with the same M1...Now, the rear shaft seal on the TC was infact dripping but, the D&F has stopped it completly...Just the oposite of the rear diff.
Although the seal is in need of replacing, in the meantime I am wondering if I can use a suitable lube such as 80w110 or heavier(DINO Diff lube this time), without hurting the differential itself. Maybe too, it will slow/stop the leaking to an acceptable drip.
Thank you for any assistance

I see that there are 28 views on this subjest but zero responces so, let me ask the question this way:
Is there anyone using a heavier weight lube in the rear differential with good results, other than what is recomended by Lexus?

Carguy07,
Thanks for the link. This is just what I am looking for!
I just wanted to know that I can safely use a heavier wgt gear lube without hurting the differential, till I get the shaft seal repaired. And hopefully slow down the leak in the meantime!
