malhokc, don't have a link but I can tell you what the deal is....
The strut tower mounting bracket gets worn allowing a wierd thumping noise from any corner of the car involved. Though not dangerous (suspension will not fall off or break, nor are there any directional stability problems), it's very annoying. It's a known issue with Lexus and they'll replace them; last I heard there is a TSB out.
Ours were done about 2.5-3 years ago, no recurrence of problem.
I had mine replaced (rear) back in May 2001. I think it's coming back. I only saw 1 TSB on it for a 2000 model, none for 2001-2002. I have a 2000. I'm going to see if gets any worse before considering going back to dealer. I still have about 12K left on the warranty.
Does anybody have any information on this Technical Service Bulletin? I've got an annoying noise on my front suspension (mostly passenger side). I had them look at this early this year and they did some work (much improved, but coming back).
I'm out of my warranty period (99 RX), but if it's a technical service bulletin, wouldn't they still replace it, being a manuf. defect?
with the cold weather i started hearing creaking from the front suspention when i pull out of the driveway off the curve, is this the same problem? and if it is the same problem will Lexus fix it if it is in a TSB even if i just made my 50,000 mile mark?
thanks
I am experiencing the same problem in cold weather as disco_y2k here in Chicago, very annoying and not expected for a Lexus. If anyone has a fix, please info here.
I had this and also a broken strut on the front left, and Lexus just charged me for the part, no labor, despite my car being 5,000 miles out of warranty. The person who owned my car before me, never took care of the things (low price). Lexus of San Antonio already knew about the issue when I brought it up.
... (suspension support) with some success. The TIB shows the suspension parts. I happened to use WD40 at the very top during this very cold weather in Boston.
