Default AWD oils

It is ok to use 75w-90 rather than the 85w-90 spec' d in the manual for rear diff and transfer case? if so, why does lexus spec the thicker oil?

Yep, totally fine. Probably what they had a stock of when they made them,

Don't worry about it at all.

If anything, the 75W is better for lubrication until everything is warmed up, but only very slightly.

I put synthetic in my wife's RX, all around, and I don't plan on changing it but maybe one more time in the car's 'life'.
