Welcome to the Club.

Yes, https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...on-w-pics.html

Takes a bit of work and it's something I am contemplating in the future, but actually to allow video input from my Iphone on to the screen.

The navigation units you have to look around for to get them inexpensively. I see them on ebay sometimes and even on craigslist.

Have not done this yet. As I recall one difference was one of the wire harnesses from the original, but the kit was a complete one when you can find it.

I would tread that water bit carefully. Since introduction of NAV on RX, there have been many generation changes. OP is on the right track to check and double check compatibility.

One question that still needs to be answered is after spending $$$ why would you settle for n generation old nav system for which updates will not only be expensive but soon may not be available. Granted the integration will be seamless and the dumb screen will show more that temp etc.

I have been fairly impressed with the Garmin maps on iphone. Nice bright display and portability.

Look at alternatives before you take a plunge.

I myself have been thinking about doing the nav retrofit too, but not until the price drops below $600. Which will likely by a while. lol

I have copilot premium, navigon and tomtom on my iPhone. They all work perfect but, I want the navigation in the car to be able to have video output from my iPhone, just like Lexmex mentioned. Then, I could use my iPhone navigation right on the RX300 display and it would work perfect. Or, of course I could just use the RX300 navigation instead of my iPhone. I also like how it's able to track maintenance on the navigation unit itself, I think thats neat. I will still keep service records, but it would be cool to have my car keep track of it too, once I input it into the navigation unit.

I think it will fit in my 2000 RX by reading lot of infos in the forum and other sources. But my truck doesnot have any extra harness connection in the rear trunk area by the jack to connect gps DVD rom drive. But I found one complete 2001 gps navigation with screen, radio, DVD rom. I will explore it to integrate in my RX . It's a great idea to connect iPhone (which Lexmex wrote), and add backup camera (which I was trying add with Gentex genk332 rear view mirror will cost me around $400 bucks. I found the gps lower price). I will let you total come out.
