put key in ignition and won't turn. I followed directions from my mechanic friend to insert small screwdriver and tap on it gently then try the key. Keep doing this until it releases. This has happened twice over several month period. Lexus tells me that i have to change the lock because the next time it may not release or key will get stuck in the ignition, its very expensive. Anyone have a cheaper solution such as a lubricant for the lock?

Does your steering wheel lock up too? Whenever this has happened, maybe 3-4 times in like 5 years, I just turn the steering wheel left and right repeatedly while turning the key.

Welcome to Club Lexus!

You can spray a little pb blaster in there, but it won't last long. Better to replace the lock cylinder rather than getting stuck at some random parking lot because you can't start the car.
