Default 2001 rx 300 issue.. Need help !

Can anyone answer if a faulty knock sensor (Bank 1) will cause my car not to shift into overdrive most of the time ? I am being told from an ASE certified Lexus mechanic that a knock sensor has NOTHING to do with it not shifting into 4th (overdrive) and it is a transmission issue, however after reading some previous forums on this site people do say that this does cause the vehicle to do that, and after it being replaced, the problem went away..

ASE certified needs to go back to training.

Some check engine lights sets the vehicle in limp mode [drive-able]. Engine knock beyond sensor control is one of them. The ecu cant tell if the knock sensor signal is real or on sensor failure. So it locks out the overdrive.

The above is not just my personal experience, but also from others on the forum.

ASE certified can make mistakes too.
