3MZ-FE swap in a RX300 - How Practical?
My 2001 RX300 needs a new engine. I have the opportunity to buy a very low mileage 3MZ-FE out of a 2006 Highlander. I am assuming this isn't a practical swap but I thought I'd ask. I don't know how different the 3MZ-FE is from the 1MZ-FE.
Obviously the 3MZ-FE is larger bore and stroke but are the blocks and mounting locations the same? Are they similar enough were some of the components of the 1MZ-FE could be swapped over to make it work? like intake manifold, sensor, etc. This kind of makes the assumption the computer can adapt and handle the larger displacement.
I could see them being so different where this isn't practical. I ran into that on an Isuzu were to make a new engine I would have had to strip everything down to the short block. I decided that wasn't worth it.
I need somebody that has some detailed knowledge of the subject. Any Toyota/Lexus techs out there?
I fully understand that RR of the engine is hard enough without trying to take this on.

You may want to ask over at www.solaraguy.com in the 1st generation upgrade forum. There have been some people there who have ventured into that territory. Keep in mind you would also have to fork over money for an ECM, too.
Personally, if I wanted to rip out the 1MZFE, I would go into something way more powerful than the 3MZFE.
