Default My Transmission Problem, help!

Hello, all. I am suffering a serious transmission problem. I really don't want to get it replaced. I have carefully done experiments on this car, please see the symptoms:

When engine is cold:

1. At "P", When step on the gas, the Engine Speed can goes above 2000 rpm.
2. Shift "P" to "R", gear engages soon
3. Shift "R" to "D", gear hesitated about 3 secs.
4. Car runs fine, shifting is OK with a little jerk, all gear works. No slipping at all.

When engine is warm or hot:

1. Shift "P" to "R", gear engages soon
2. Shift "R" to "D", gear engages soon
3. The car is slipping at about 40 mph, today I finally figured it out that the car could not engage into gear 4. That is why the car always slip at about 40 mph, not at any other lower speed. (But it will engage when the engine is cold, strange......)

The check engine code :P0770, shift solenoid "E" problem, but after I research online, I found this is a generic problem. Shift solenoids does not fail easily.

The ATF is replaced last month, the level is fine, but I think this is the beginning of this disaster.

Please help me find where is wrong.
I don't trust local repair man, I think they are not professional.
I don't trust dealer, I think what they are going to do is replace the whole transmission.

I only trust people here.

Great thanks in advanced.

You should probably start off by dropping the pan and replacing the filter... That way you can see if there is any debris in the fluid or on the magnets. So start with that and report back.

when you had atf replaced did you use Toyota Type IV? And did you have a flush done or a drain and fill...by the way we do not recommend flushes...And no matter what anybody tells you the flush will not fix your problem, been there done that...

lserlohn,
What had happened since 5/3, did anything change ? Any good news ?

I may be having similar problems, 2000 RX300 AWD 107K, tranny fluid changed at 100K and again at 105K (both are drains and pan drops with refills) at a national Transmission chain shop with ATF Type IV. After the second change, rough gear changes from 1-2 and 2-3, especially cold, then less so when the car is warmed up.

Yesterday, my wife called in panic reporting awful metal sound from the transmission and very rough gear changes. She parked in a public parking spot and now the car does not engage in R at all. It still engages in D going forward but very rough with some sound. No CEL ? The fluid level is right on spot.

I will drop the pan after draining both plugs and add fresh ATF Type IV, as much as I drain, then check. See if there are any metals or metal dust !

Check if ATF IV is the same or better than Toyota ATF IV. If not then you have something to complain about.

I have a RX300 with just over 200k. We got the same code P0770 and we replaced the solenoid E as everyone said and it didn't correct anything. We have no metal shavings or funny noises. The magnets in the pan are clean from any metal shavings. We replaced with new Lexus fluid and still the same issues.

Dindih, you have any success? I just got home from dinner and my Rx did almost the same thing. Slipped out of reverse then wouldn't engage in at all. Right starts from complete stop.
