Default Worst Problem replace PCV valve, Need help!

When I try to pull the PCV valve, it breaks flush with the hole. Now the It drop down in to the engine. Should I break the rubber grommet and pick it up or else? Please help with processes to retrieve it. Thank you.

Yea, you need to get it out of there before driving it. I would pull the grommet out and try to fish it out with needle nose pilers or a dental pick or maybe some reverse pliers. Worst case would be to remove the valve cover, but I think the intake has to come off too so I would work hard to try to fish it out first. It's a shame that it is not in the front valve cover. There is not much room to work back there.

Would it even be possible to fish it out through the hole? Think about it, it's the plastic PCV model, so you couldn't use an extension wand with a magnet on the end. Maybe one of those gripper tools, but then the diameter of the grippers claw around the PCV part would be too large for the hole.

Something like this might be your best bet:

I really hope you can get it through the hole. Let us know. But part of me is thinking there might be some time-consuming/expensive disassembly here...

I think the dental pick with a hook is a good idea. I have used those for many years and at times they are a life saver. (my DIL is an oral hygenist) They are easy to get just about anywhere now.

Update:
Remove the grommet, it broke in half. Put my finger in there, I could not feel anything! Use a vacuum, sucks at the hole, then I can feel it with my finger. Use my pinkie with some Vaseline to move it to the hole. Pick it up with a hook wire in the middle hole of the broken PCV. Clean up the compartment with my finger nail, it full of dirty, sandy oil. Vacuum it inside clean. I don't think anybody ran into this trouble, just clumsy me. Anyway, thanks for all your helps, when I really need them.

Trouble happens everyday, don't panic (like me!), get help, tackle it, and be......patient.

Glad to hear you were able to fish it out of there.

You are by no means the first person to have that happen. The vacuum cleaner idea is great. I never would have thought of that one.

You should upgrade your PCV to a metal one.

Thumbs up

Boy it is great to find some of these old threads. Just had the same thing happen on my 2000 AWD! PVC broke in half trying to get it out. Then the grommet was so brittle, it broke up and fell inside with the lower half of the PCV! Thought I was up the proverbial creek. Anyway, searched and found this thread, grabbed my set of "dental" picks from Harbor Freight, got my vacuum ready and grabbed my small needle nose with long prongs. Was able to work the pieces out and then check inside with my Depstech inspection camera. Time to sit back with a cold one and a sigh of relief !
Thanks to all you guys above for the input!
