Default Maintenance Intervals

My uncle has a 1st gen RX and was wondering what the service intervals were. I ordered him the free owners manual from lexus.com but I don't think their in there. For my SC I have the factory shop manuals which have all this info in 'em, but those are definitely overkill for him.

Do you guys know where I can find this info for him?

The service intervals have evolved over time, as more experience has been gained, in my opinion.

The basic interval is the oil change at 7,500 miles or 6 months (or 5,000 miles and I think 6 months in hard usage). I think most of us here change oil more frequently than that.

The cabin air filter change interval is 18 months, and there are the usual fluids and filters at two years (or 30,000 miles).

The Lexus manuals didn't suggest changing the transmission fluid unless it changes color (goes dark). I don't know that this has ever been officially changed, but is not the feeling here (in my opinion) or what most dealers would advise.

If you give us the mileage and what was done last, we can advise you, until you get the owner's manual.

X2 on what Bob2200 said. But, I would like to add one more thing. I suggest doing a drain and fill every 15-20k on the transmission because they are some-what prone to failure towards the earlier years such as 99' and 00'. There has been much debate in the past of when they updated the trans to avoid failure. My uncle has a 99' RX300 and he is quickly approaching 300k miles on his original transmission (AWD). So as you can see with proper maintenance these things will run forever.

Thanks guys,

It's an '03, so luckily it has the revised tranny.

@bob2200: He already has the owner's manual (as ordered from Lexus.com) and said it has all the info regarding use of the car but doesn't see any of the service interval information in there. Is he just looking in the wrong place?

Call Lexus again. There are two booklets, the owner's manual and an appendix? that has the service interval checkoffs. They both came in opposite sides of the black folder that came with the car new.
