My 2000 rx300 security system seems to suddenly be malfunctioning, in that the red light remains on continuously, and does not change to "blinking" status after locking up the car, and never turns off. Indeed, if the car is locked and a door opened (after an appropriate wait), the alarm fails to sound.
My remote entry and "panic" system works fine. The only other thing noticed is that my rear lights fail to flash for "open" when I use the remote entry, but they do flash twice properly when using remote lock.
Anyone have any clue what should be checked for such a problem?

 

I think flashing once is proper for remote lock and twice for remote unlock. I think the first thing to try is disconnecting the battery (or the right fuse) for a while to try to reset things.

 

Hit the lock position on the remote and check all doors including the rear hatch, if any are open the lock motor has gone out, and the security switch for that door is not actuating....

 

Not a guaranteed fix:

Insert your master key and pull out.
Insert the other master key and pull out.

thanx for reply. Problem finally solved by disconnecting and then re-connecting battery. Seems that many of the computerized systems on vehicle (85k mi) are becoming unstable, as I find that I often have to "reset" my power windows in order for them to work properly.

 

Electronics stuff, living past the early mortality part is usually very robust.

I would blame an aging battery, then the electromechanical parts and last of all the electronics.

And yes there are software gremlins that run around.

I agree with Salimshah, more than likely your battery is on the fritz if what your explaining is going on. Does your clock reset by itself sometimes?

 

I had the drivers door lock actuator stick halfway @ times that would also cause the problem as well as any door that did not lock properly.

I wd40'd all the door actuators, catches, etc and manual opened and closed each one several times to be sure they were lubed and would be free.

That solved my similar issue with the non-arming / arming properly situation.

Of course the good ole hard reset once in a while solves a lot of little bugs.
