Default Check Engine Light

Well, my moron son lost the gas cap to our 99 RX300 and proceeded to just close the cover door and drive on his merry way. Fastforward 24 hours:

"Dad, what's that yellow light on the dash like an engine with CHECK underneath it"!

OK, it's probably the gas cap but I've driven it about 60 miles on a new gas cap and it still hasn't gone out. I've bought a universal OBDII code reader but now I can't figure out where the scanner connects in the RX 300.

Can someone point me to the diagnostic connector?

Thanks

Near the driver knee level. It has a slide out cover... thankfully the cover is tethered (you cant loose it).

Salim
ps: The evap system (fuel vapors) takes a bit longer to set and reset .... the change is monitored over time.

Yup, there it was. And the person who last checked for codes left the cover off!

Code was: 123 p0440 IUF

"Evaporative emission control malfunction" which I'm guessing, as you say, Salim, that its the gas cap and it may take a couple of days to clear (Bayesian logic).

I'll leave it a couple of days and report back.

Thanks!

Why don't you use your code reader to clear it?

I could; does clearing the code make the CEL go out?
