Benjamin, you've answered my question. What he was obviously referring to is the actual hydraulic tensioner (the part that you use the pin in to hold it after compression in a vice) I would have to disagree with that, though I respectfully accept his opinion and others who might take that position. I doubt that there are a very high percentage of "tensioners" replaced when the W/P, idler pulley and tensioner pulley are replaced with the T/B. As stated, after 3 times out and still running with the original at 145k mi. on my DIL's RX, I wouldn't argue with anyone who replaces it, but would question the necessity when ever it's removed. If it's not leaking, it should still do the job. JMO The tensioner you mentioned would be called the "tensioner pulley assembly" and is tensioned by said tensioner and is indeed an assy., but not what your mechanic was referring to. They are associated but not the same part.
