Default P0120 Code - 99 RX

Folks,

For the longest time (years!) this 300 showed no codes...now all of the sudden, it is showing a throttle position sensor code.

I can't help to think that I might have done something dumb when I recently put a full charge on a battery, then connected the terminals immediately after the charge, and when I did the negative terminal sparked a bit, which I thought was normal, and then 5 minutes into the drive the CEL came on and viola...the P0120.

Anyone ever replaced one of these sensors, and did I unecessarily jolt the electrical system by hooking up the battery too soon after a full charge??

Many thanks for any replies.

The TPS can be susceptible to jolts.

With some electrical testing equipment one could check the voltage in this sensor (area noted below).

The times I have seen this come up with other vehicles it has been replaced, but checking the voltage would reveal the issue, let me know.

Lex - Thanks much for the info. Saw the actual part is only about $50...looks like a pretty simple install however if we have to take the throttle body off that may be more cumbersome.

Interesting that this and other sensors might be sensitive to a jolt...I just hope I didn't mess anything else up that might be a whole lot more expensive...

Luckily I have a seasoned Toyota mechanic for a neighbor!

Well the sensor has been replaced and maybe I am reading into this a little too much but the car really shifts a lot smoother as a result of this particular repair...It would seem that the sensor was slowly failing and now with a new unit in place, the car really just runs that much better...just wanted to finish the thread with another success story.
