hey guys, sorry to bump an old thread. but i have searched and searched for the answer.

I am going to replace the PCV valve and clean the IACV (surge at idle) pretty soon. When I order the PCV valve (where should I order it from?) will I get the revised PCV valve for her 2000RX300 or will it still be the old design?? I didn't know if I should look into using the camry one or if the PCV I order will have been updated.

If you use the part number given, you could call Toyota and pick it up from there. Or possibly have the parts store cross reference the number to one they have in stock.

i replaced on my es300. it was plastic. The old one wasnt that bad. but i think it was good time to change. I think if the oil change is done regularly then PCV valve shoudnt go bad

Looking to replace my PCV valve (rubber) and would like to know which is better:

1. replace with OEM
2. replace with camry PCV
3. Lexmex hollowed out mod - not quite clear on how to do this yet, but found this (links to pictures do not work for me):

So far, I am leaning towards Lexmex method because it appears to improve MPG. Any thoughts?

I have the Camry pcv and no problem.

Well my PCV valve is plastic, but I know the 2001 and above with the metal, you'd probably need to take a drill to it.

What I did was heat up a big paper clip on a stove and then shoved it into the pcv valve to melt out the plastic and eventually blew some water through there, let dry and was done.

Some people I know with the 1MZFE engine (particularly Solara owners) have been using catch tanks on the driver's side or breather filters. I didn't really have much luck with the breather filters back in 2008 when tried that out (breather filters had to restrictive of a material).

Now THIS may be a dumb question, but what's the harm in just opening up the PCV valve inside, taking out the little rattle-y thing, and letting all the gases go right through? As it's currently designed, when does it open and close?

The function/purpose is to recover unburnt fuel vapors from the engine block (things that went past the piston) and re-introduce them to the fuel inlet side. If you have an open conduit (think of that as an open door) then the fresh fuel side will try to get into the block side. You need a one way door (valve) that only allows the unburnt fuel to travel from the engine block to the intake side.

The check valve is gravity based ball and the vapors have to lift it up. The thing that helps is the heated fuel vapors from the block have energy and vacuum in the intake also sucks up on the other side.

One simple trick to see if the pcv is working fine is to take off the oil filler cap and lay a sheet of paper over the filler hole, With the intake vacuum working and pcv (not stuck) will produce low pressure on the block side and the paper should cup in the filler hole.
