Default Oil change mess

Do you guys have the issue of oil running onto the undertray behind the drain plug? I had my car on ramps and was draining the oil and the stream was partially hitting the undertray and now I have a bunch of residual oil on it. Made a big mess!

No. Never had that issue, and since I put the Fumoto valve in place of the drain bolt, I've had even less opportunity for creating a mess.

Fumoto F-103N is what you need for this one and most Scion/Toyota/Lexus engines. I just stick a clear plastic hose on the nipple, open the valve, have a beer or two while I'm waiting, then close the valve and it's all done. No mess, no fuss. The worst part of the oil change now is the filter change.

I stick a piece of cardboard there so that prevents it from hitting that tray. Little bit of back splash at the first go but just have a wider type oil bucket below.

I might invest in that fumoto valve. But heard it drains a little slower (there's another valve brand that i read reviews from about that... i forget the particular brand) since the drain hole is contricted a little...

Sure it's slower, but you're not going to get hot oil spewing out of the drain, so you can drain the oil when it is at full operating temperature without burning yourself or coating your tools with hot oil. Saves a whole lot of mess too because you can just stuff the hose in your drain pan, open the valve, and take a break while it drains. Or you can do the filter while it is draining because you can move your pan to sit directly under the filter because the hose is making sure you don't make a mess.

Seriously, if you haven't used one of these, you have no idea what you are missing.

Yeah, that happened to me the first time.. I change my oil with Rhino ramps, which makes the angle of the drain plug perfect to shoot a blast of hot oil into between the undertray & the car. The solution I came up with was to wedge a large red funnel between my large oil drain pan & the undertray, which creates sort of a backstop.

I won't have to worry about that next time, though. Based on Lance's recommendation, I just ordered one of those Fumoto valves

I used the ramp on a slight sloped drive way then the front is leveled with the rear, and I never have any oil spilled in the under tray.
