Default Only "Real" competitor to RX?.................

I don't know if this has been discussed here or not but, it appears the only direct competition and real threat to the RX is probably the Nissan Murano. Acura MDX/Honda Pilot aside, style wise I think Nissan is on to something. I personally think the RX edges the Nissan out in styling, but I will have to reserve my opinion until I see the Nissan in person. It's definitley derivative (or biting) the RX in a lot of areas. I know for a fact the interior won't be able to compete.

I agree. I like the styling of the Murando, a lot, except for the front grill. The interior is nice to, especially with the dark brown leather. It was on display at the Atlanta Auto Show.

This will be a good vehicle for Nissan.

It is rather sporty...But actually I see the Nissan Murano as
a great "trainer" for future Lexus RX 300 owners. Sort of
a "Wannabehicle".

While Murano owners drive around, they can be assured
that all that aluminum in the interior will not stain from
their drool as a RX 300 drives smoothly by.

Don't sleep, Nissan is trying to come up- You can't honestly compare the upcoming FX-45 to anything in the Lexus lineup. Cuz Lexus doesn't have anything that sporty with V8 power.
The current QX (old wacked dressed up pathfinder)has been around since the beggining of time. MDX nah, Pilot promising for the money, GM triplets - professional grade (what ever). That leaves the Murano. What else is left to compete with RX? Not saying I'm looking to flip into a Murano, but I give Nissan props, as they are essentially trying to reinvent themselves. This of course includes Infiniti, which will have a completely new lineup next year. Admittedly, they need to do something about the Q-45 as I hear Infiniti is having a fire sale on those cars.

This is all subjective - and of course my personal opinion

Question

Who said anything about service? Porsche doesn't have the best service - does that degrade the product?

Nissan is making some great looking products but their interiors are getting half-A$$ and the cost cutting is evident.

Sorry for bringing up this very old thread, but I'm doing some scouting work for my parents on which car they should consider replacing our ford windstar with. I test drove the Murano (TWICE) yesterday and it's an amazing piece of art. Decent power, cvt trans, awd, navi, computer, the works. However, I am echy on suggesting a $37k nissan vehicle. I know their service is horrible and the suv hasn't been around to prove itself as of yet. I was just wondering if anyone else has driven it and can give some comparisons to their lexus, positives and negatives.

I think Nissan should call it the Sorrentoutlander RXX5... Translation: Visually it's a bad marriage of the RX and X5 design concepts, performance wise my GUESS would be that it's in the league of the Kia Sorrento and the Mitsu Outlander. Can you say "knock off of everything else out there?"

While I don't personally like it, I agree that Nissan is on the move. Anyone who has sat in the cockpit or test driven a new 350Z would agree with that statement - that ride is built with some SERIOUS attention to detail.

Still, the RX 300, the genuine article, is still the unchallenged king IMO.
