Default 2002 RX300 questions

Hi everyone. I have a 2002 RX that has about 80,000 miles. On cold morning starts after starting the engine, the engine revs up to 1750 RPM and then there is a loud clunk. Is that normal? Another.. How do I change the auto setting for the A/C? Right now auto is set to my feet and i want to my face, any way to change that? Thanks in advance!

I also have a 2002 RX300, but it is essentially never in cold weather, so I can't comment on the initial RPM. However, the clunk doesn't sound normal. Is the clunk for no reason, or is it when you shift out of park, or at some other transition point.

The automatic climate control position is just that, automatic. It will try to channel warm heat to your feet and cool A/C to your face. I think that any attempt to override automatic will do just that, override the automatic features. I have been content to let the automatic climate control do it's thing, but I can understand why someone would want to adjust the controls manually.

the initial RPMs when its cold are about 1500-1800 rpmthats is fine

the clunk is not fine Only if it clunks when it is idling and not in gear

it makes noise when going into gear yes.

no clunk though.

also with the automatic air conditioning...

just go to the button right dial and press it...this will take it out of auto mode...then hit that again to select where you when the air flow to go..position wise...

Not sure if what he is experiencing on the clunk is perhaps the IACV valve 'coming about'. I've gotten a clunk there on a few occasions over the life of my RX and usually have to go in there and clean it to solve that problem, but we'll have to wait to hear back from him.

I'd say first to have either yourself or another observer try to identify the clunk after starting the vehicle up (one person turns it on and the other tries to pinpoint the clunk). I know whole host of areas that can go clunk around start up, but it's better to try to pinpoint the area first.

No, dont diagnose things for the mechanic [unless you know for sure].

There are so many sources of noise and one has to train the ears to pin-point the source.
