Default Glove compartment issues

Is anyone else having problems closing their glove compartment? It seems I have to slam to get my 99 RX to close. I had a 2001 loaner and saw the same problem.

Thanks

David

Yeah i've got the same problem, i think its the thickness of the owners manual and the weight of it, try taking that away then closing it again it should be easier to close.

I first had that problem after my first service. I don't think mine was anythnig to do with any heavy objects inside the compartment. I think it was to do with the hinge rail on the left side not railing properly. Since then, I have experienced the problem a couple times only.

Mine is the same way. It's much easier to close reaching in from the passenger door than reaching over from the driver's side. If you touch it just to the right side of the lock, it'll close easier. But, definitely not easy to close.

I think everyone has had this problem with the glovebox.. I had 3 RX's and all of them didn't like to have it's box shut... Just slam that $hit... It works all the time for me... My GS I think doesn't have that problem..

When I first got my rx I told the dealer about the glove box. They said it happens because its a new car.....Well its about a year and half later and still the same promblem.

But Just use SyPHERS advice and "JUST SLAM THAT **** "

Default Possible solution

I test drove a bunch of pre-owned RX's before I bought mine that had the same problem. Mine was fine for a while but then I started to have trouble closing it as well.

I found that there is a plastic piece on the non-lid part of the latch mechanism that gets off-center. When I pushed that piece over (it takes a little effort), the door closed fine again.

Just something you guys might try that worked for me.

Thumbs up

What you guys might want to try is to replace the plastic ring the covers the metal latch. This latch becomes worn or pushed to one side, which makes the latch smaller or in the wrong position. What I did was put a bigger peice of plastic in its place and now it works everytime.

Lightbulb Problem with glove box solved...

There is a little piece of plastic wrapped around the latch in the middle of the top section of the glove box. This plastic piece over time slides to the left or right of the latch that it is on. Take your fingernail or something and slide it back to the center. This will fix the "Problem".

David,

Unless you want to fix it yourself, take it to the dealership and complain about it the next time you're in for servicing or need quality time in their massage chair. They'll fix it for free as it is covered under warranty.

I had mine fixed after realizing that the muscles on my right arm were getting bigger than the ones on my left from trying to close it so many times. I don't know why they don't check it and fix it for CPO cars because they all seem to get it and they know how to fix it.

Thanks for the replies. I'm bring the RX to the shop today to have it looked at. I wouldn't want people wondering why one arm is bigger than the other...
