Default Heat unavailable

2001 RX 300, 115K

I can't get the heat to come on or the air temperature to change. It's always cold, even when I turn the **** all the way to "max heat". is it a thermostat problem?

Thanks.

do a search on "air servo" ... these control various dampers to direct air.

Salim.

Do air servos control the temperature? I don't have a problem with air direction, that works fine. It's just that I can't get the air temperature to change. It's always cold.

Thanks.

I wonder if your tempature sensor went bad?

It is always so hard to diagnose properly and the servo may be OK. The hunch I am going with is that servo is the part that is more prone to failure and if it does not open the heat exchanger flaps the hot air never enters the air stream.

Salim,
I'm starting to think that you might be right. I have been hearing ticking in the dashboard for the last 6 months or so, and I read on the forum that it had something to do with the servo.

Thanks.

It's the air mix servo that lets in the heated air. You can manually open the gate to get hot air until you get a chance to repair it. Look here:
