Default Who cuts new keys

Hi,
Just received a replacement key housing for wife's 2000 RX. $40 from Lexstacy versus $95 from the dealer. The original housing broke at the screw. Can this key be cut at Home Depot or locksmith? Or, is this only done by the dealer.
Thanks in advance.

The keys can't be cut at a Home Depot or most locksmiths, but there are usually a few locksmiths in major metro areas that can cut them, from what I've read. If you ask around at major locksmiths in your area you should find them. I think I'd ask "who can cut Toyota keys". I've read that dealers sometimes won't cut blanks other than there own; the reason given is that they are concerned that the alloy might damage their cutting equipment.

With respect to keys, the case for my RX300 keys broke and I have the key code. Contacted http://www.sparecarkeys.com and they were able take the order over the phone, cut the key and mailed it the same day and I got in Canada 2 days later. Ed was the guy I spoke to, very helpful and the cost was $52.50 for cutting the key and mailing it.
Good experience

BOB, maybe I don't understand or don't remember correctly but if you're only replacing the housing, you shouldn't have to have the key cut. I have had my DIL's apart to clean it and seemed like you could take the housing off of it. Don't have the car here to look at it.

The electronics is removeable, however the key and support housing is one piece, the cover does come off, but the other half of the shell is inherent with the key. I know, I had to replace ours, did it online and they cut the key from the vin # got two keys with the cut for under $90
