I have a 2001 Silversport with a strange click in the steering wheel. When I come off a stop or go up a steep hill and the gear changes, I can hear and feel a click through the steering wheel. There does not seem to be a click during gear changes at higher speeds. I've had my dealer check for the problem but they could not replicate it nor did they find anything loose underneath the car that might cause this problem.
I've noticed the click for a pretty long time, but does not seem to be worsening. Just wondering if any of you guys have experienced the same problem or might know the problem is.
I'd probably advise that you have a second observer outside the vehicle see if the clicking is audible in order to pinpoint the noise as I have hunch it might be an exhaust gasket in front of the catalytic converter making that noise. That usually occurs on initial acceleration.
LexMex, thanks for the suggestion. I'll give that a try since I'm really at a loss here.
Besides hearing the click inside, I actually feel it through my steering wheel. Would the noise you suggested manifest itself a click that you can actually feel though the steering wheel?
Could there be something loose with the steering linkages?
I just had a 4-wheel alignment and that did not solve the problem.

I used to have that issue you describe where I'd hear a click and it's strange as I always thought it was coming from a shock or underneath the engine. It took a neighbor of mine in my parking garage a few I drive then you drive turns to see it was really that the 14mm bolts on the gasket located in front of the catalytic converter weren't locked down. It as always at low speeds. Again, the only way I can see you uncovering this is taking it on an empty street and having an observer.
Only things I have ever seen with the steering is squeeking, but I don't seem to recall any clicking.
