Default best tire pressure?

What tire pressure do you guy`s get your best ride at? I have a 2001 AWD w/Goodyear Integrity factory type tires.I currently run about 28psi,seems to give the best ride.I don`t like to go to high because of unnecessary wear on the suspension.Just wondering what you all run at?
Thanx,
Ryan

First off, the factory Integrity are crap on snow, and rain is not much better. I would go with Michelin Cross-Terrains.

I run my X-terrain at 33 psi front and back. Running at 28 is too low and you're sacrificing mpg for a soft ride. Also, I'm sure at 28 psi you're too low and starting to ride outside the tread surface.

You will find that most of the time auto manufacturers compromise on the tire pressure. The higher pressure will give you (faintly) higher gas mileage and definitely a harsher ride (and longer tire life). The ride is the main reason they set the pressure as low as they do. A lot of people would chose not to buy the car if the tire pressure was set to what was best in all other respects (excluding ride). Most people run their pressure at too low a setting (because of factory recommendations and not checking pressure often enough) A tire losses about 1 lb. pressure per month naturally and with the factory recommendations low to begin with it doesn't take too long before the pressure is low enough to be dangerous (if loaded heavy) and destructive to the tire. But then most people won't put up with the harshness of the ride when set where they really SHOULD be.

For comfort/braking 30psi

For better roll, less sway 34 psi

compromise 32psi

I'll second that for the stock 225s.

I had 32 front and 30 rear with the Integrity...

Better yet, switch to the Bridgestone Duelers for a magic carpet ride. Though both tires are horrible in snow and ice.

Always do your research before getting something. I had the X-terrain with the 235 and I lost about 1-2 mpg on highway, but they were great on snow and ice during the winter. A whole lot better than the OEM Integrity. I recently went to dealer for an issue and they called back to say they recommended I change all four tires. I knew the tires were bad and soon to go, so I was looking into X-terrains again, but they were running about $140-147 before installation. The dealer tells me he can install the original 225 with Duelers for $155 installed. He said they were OEM tires also, so I figured at that price, give it a chance. When I got the car, noticed immediately how quieter they were compared to X-terrains (I had noticed the extra noise first time I drove with X-terrains), but how "mushy" it made the car feel. It actually felt like it was floating and not very "comfortable."

Anyway, came back onto tires.com and read comments on the tire, it's quiet, but crap on snow and ice. Oh great, the two reasons I got the X-terrain and now I'm going to probably regret it for the next three to four winters. Gosh I hate rash decisions based on price... dumbo.

The good thing is that with 400 miles, I got my 2 mpg (and better) on highway back. I'm doing about 19.9 now, whereas before with X-terrain I was lucky to get past 17.

I run 33-34 psi on Cross Terrains. I'm not that good about checking tire pressure monthly, so it usually drops. I think 28 is too low.

I concur with Alexusanja, the Integrities are not rain or snow worthy.

I like that magic carpet ride,I pumped up the Goodyear`s to 32psi,and feel`s much better. Also seem`s to brake more surely.Everything feel`s a little better.I got this 28psi stuff about 20 some years ago,I had bought a new Mercury Lynx (XR-3) And it came factory with Goodyear Eagle GT`s.I was stationed @ Fort Polk Louisiana, and the roads down their were worse than PA`s.Needless to say,I felt every bump in the road with that little car.So I ended up playing with the tire pressure until I found the best ride for the road conditions etc.And it happened to be around 27-28psi.But,the Lynx was lucky if it was 2900 lbs. soaking wet,our RX is 4,000lbs wich I didn`t take into consideration.

Took me several months to figure out 32/30 is the best with the Integrity (for me at least.) So you should pay me for it.

I use Goodyear Fortera TripleTred now. It's outstanding in snow and ice - important in Colorado. The handling is well. The ride is horrible, however. So there's always some trade-off. I pump 30/29 on this set which seems to give me the best compromise.

I do miss the Dueler's magic carpet ride. It's almost like the RX is hovering on the ground.
