Default Problem with Electric Window

Does anyone know how to fix the electric window on 2000 RX 300? I was trying to roll up the driver's window which was halfway open, when it suddenly went down to the oposite direction completely open. When I tried closing it again it does not respond anymore. Does anyone have a similar problem with his RX? Help!!

From the way you described it suddenly went down,You may have a broken window regulator.

It has been many months, but Lexmex had a problem with the window regulator. He posted a procedure which he did with his cousin. At that time, I was almost sure that the problem will crop back, but apparently the repair held up. Do a search first, if not pm Lexmex.

Funny, I saw a similar problem on one RX I was test-driving while shopping. The only way to make the front passenger window stay closed was to pull and hold the switch, then turn off the ignition) Otherwise it would re-open it half-way when you release the switch. Didn't buy that one

I have this same problem on my 2001 RX300. The front windows will not go back up, unless they go all the way down first. Without going to the dealer, anybody out there have the answer to fixing this?

Default Fixed It!

Hey Guys, I researched the problem and found a solution. Here's what I did: I turned on the ignition key with the driver's door open. Then I pulled the switch and observed the dome light. Here's the indicator of the problem: if the dome light dims as I pulled the switch, then I have a bad motor. If the dome light does not dim then the switch does not work. I'm lucky the motor is still ok. I sprayed silicone lubricant to the switch and "exercised" it. As I "exercised" it I heard clicks. They weren't there before. That means it's loosening up. It was probably filled with dirt and gunks. I wiped off excess lubricant and tried it again. It works this time!

Glad your problem is solved. Just in case any reader is mislead, your statement about motor being bad is not precise. I would state it as, if the dome light dims, it means the circuit via switch is good, the motor is getting the juice. Why it fails to move the window up/down is most probably due to pinch protection (which gets activated by strong drag in the window movement). By lubing the motor, tracks, etc one can fix the problem ... OR the motor is on the blink.

Thanks Salim for the clarification. I just followed the explanation based on the info from a website on how to fix a car's power window. That information could be incomplete or inaccurate. But, luckily, it worked for me. Thanks again.

The thread seems to be morphing ... you may like to start a new thread.

The description on the whole needs more clarification.

The problem is in the lock (electrical or mechanical .. remote vs flip_lever), hinge .. swing, or the release (lever inside or the lift plate outside).

FYI: The catch works by physical closure (the gear on the catch needs to travel to garb on to the hook) and then the release will operate the catch. ... If the catch is tripped half way the door will not close as the hook can not get in. You have to use a screwdriver to trip the gear all the way and then use the release lever to open up the jaw to accept the hook.
