Bluetooth Car Kit For 2000 Rx 300 ?
Hi,
Anyone ever installed bluetooth car kit-Motorola IHF 1000 or any other devices for 2000 RX 300 ?
Is it possible to integrate with car original stereo? Please let me know if you
have any experiences. Thanks

Hi,
I've got a Motorola IHF 1000 installed in my 2001 RX (with sat-nav) - It was simple to install - only tricky bits were to find the mute wire that comes from the amp and route the microphone wire up to the rear-view mirror.
When a call comes in the kit mutes the stereo and pauses the CD, the motorola voice tells you the number (or voice tag if it recognises the tel number). You answer the call, hang up and the stereo comes back on.
To make a call you can either dial it on your phone or use the voice recognition on the motorola (either the whole number or saved name).
I'm using the motorola speaker it comes with rather than the car stereo as I didn't want to mess with the wiring plus its easy to hide and loud enough.
Let me know if you have any questions etc.
Cheers
John

Hi John,
Thanks for your reply. I have a 2000 RX 300 without navigation. Is it possible to integrate with my original car stereo? I believe the car stereo made by pioneer.

I can tell you for sure that there is a mute connection in the factory prewire phone harness under the center console on the drivers side in the 95-00 LS400. In the 98-00 the mute pin is the center front terminal of the driver's side phone connector and all one has to do is stick the phone kit's mute wire into the connector and secure it with a wire tie.
I can't tell you if your RX has the same phone connector and mute pin but I can tell you that a dealer installed phone with audio mute was an option up through 2003: http://www.lexus.com/cpo/model_library/RX/2003.html
I am guessing but I would assume that all Lexus models for each model year would have the same factory prewire phone connections -- except for the IS which seems to have never been prewired for a dealer installed Lexus phone.
You can always pick up an audio mute connection on the head unit or amp (depending on model) but it can be easier and less risky to connect the phone kit's mute wire to a prewire phone connector when it is available. One can usually pick up a mute connection where the phone transceiver installs in the back of the car but doing that means running a cable forward to your phone kit -- but that is relatively easy on an RX and info on how to do that on a 99 or 00 has been posted on this forum in the past. But go for an under console connection for the mute -- easier if you can find one.
I should probably modify my signature to say "Resident phone car kit nut"!

Mr Kansas, you are a car kit legend! It was your diagram that helped me find the correct mute wire.
My mute cable was from the back of the car - you can see the cable on here (its the pink one with heatshink on)

Here is the 2000 RX300 audio system diagram you requested in your PM. Edit: The telephone mute pin/wire at the amplifier is labeled "TMUT" (telephone mute).
And here is a very old post from "sleepybobcat" who found a mute pin in the back of his RX: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...led-nokia.html He called the wire color "purple" but I suspect it is "violet" as shown on the 2000 RX300 audio system diagram.
I've recommended looking under the armrest (driver side) on gen 1 RX300's for a phone connector with a mute pin but I don't remember anyone reporting that they looked. I used the mute pin (center front pin in the 6-pin female connector) under the armrest to mute the phone kit in my 2000 LS400 but no one has confirmed if the gen 1 RX300 has the same connector.
