Question Filters Replaced-Cost effective maintenance repairs?

For all the DIY'ers what's the procedures for replacing the filters? Do you buy them at autozone? What brand and how much? Looking for an independant mechanic, now that my warranty is up! I don't trust my hubbie to do much with my car! He hates that I pay way to much for general repairs!!! I'm just nervous! If Iu don't get a new car soon, I have to have a plan b when something goes wrong! Yikes! Looking for tips on maintanance.

Thanks

stick with the toyota filters for the engine oil...As for the rest, they would not damage the vehicle. Ask friends for references of a local mechanic, and build a relationship if they are good, but dont get overcharged....

I use mobil1 or K&N oil filter. Stay away from FRAM and purolator. Those are Hyundai quality.

I stick with Toyota/Lexus filters for the oil, engine air, and cabin air. If you look at previous postings, you'll see some have used home A/C filter material to fabricate cabin air filter replacements, and some use performance engine air filters. That's in addition to the several premium oil filter brands (not to mention the variety of Toyota/Lexus filters available).

I think you'll find these things very easy to do -- look at the how-to threads on this forum. Air and cabin filters are easy, of course. Oil and filter changes are easy if you don't mind you (or your husband!) getting a little messy. Consider buying a small supply of Lexus parts you need from one of the nice dealers on this forum offering mail order. You'll save quite a bit. My wife takes her car to the dealer for a lot of stuff, but I do most of the work for my car and for my daughters' vehicles to save some $$$.

Tampa- you know that I respect you, but I sat here laughing to myself about the comment about Hyundai. I DO NOT own H stock nor a H., but do you realize that for the last several years the mighty Hyundai has equaled Lexus on the fewest customer complaints or problems and is at the top of the list whereas Mercedes is near the bottom. They are actually a good car now (it's not your fathers Hyundai). Having gotten that out of the way- I totally agree with you on Fram but have to disagree on Purolator. They have fared very well with the people that test and grade filters. I tend to prefer to stick with original man. especially on oil filters, but will definitely use purolator products if I chose to use aftermarket. They are a good product. Still Love me Tampa? I'm always open to learning.
