Now we have to put a long flathead screwdriver in there to separate the sensor from the rest of the wheel assembly. It does take some effort, but it will come off.

And here it is. You will not some accumulation on the sensor itself.

Now, we did remove the wheel here but only so that we had some more light.

Now, here is that hole where the sensor goes in. I have an AWD RX300, for those of you with an FWD RX300, the 12mm bolt is on the bottom and you also have an o-ring between the sensor and this hole area.

Now, notice here with the blue arrows, that is where you have to the jet of water in there, you can use soap if you so desire, just as long as you shoot in water in there, just don't use any kind of petroleum product, even like the liquid wrench I used on the fronts (in that case you can get a direct shot on the sensor on the fronts, no so with this)

What we did when we had the sensor out was with some wet cloth (with water only) carefully rubbed off the excess material on the sensor.

Lexmex - Do you think brake cleaner is too abrasive to clean the abs speed sensor or the area where the blue arrows point?

No, but remember you need to spray it in there to hit it hard.

Hi guys - first post. I've been poking around the forum for the past week and it seems loaded with good information.

Anyways - I was recently fortunate enough to be gifted a 1999 RX300 AWD for graduation. It's in great shape - 118k miles, transmission ~2 years old, minor dings etc.

The only problem I have is similar to this post - ABS inappropriately being activated. I read this post and tried to shoot a good stream of water in the vicinity that LexMex pointed to but I was at a self-carwash and can't be sure that I hit the right areas. Anyways the problem continues and I think I'll start by retrying the methods described above.

My question is that if one of the sensors themselves is bad how would I be able to tell which one? Anything else I should try?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to CL. What is the condition of your tires? You could be loosing traction (under certain condition) and your RX is faithfully reporting a slip.

other than the tread left, tread pattern quality of tire, amount of water,/gravel, tire-angle (strait vs turning), air pressure (surface contact), amount of torque all play a part.

Default Plan B- drive it w/o ABS?

I was just curious at what price point these ABS repairs aren't worth doing? So you don't have that functionality any more.
Generations of people drove cars prior to the invention of ABS.
I have a new to me 15yo RX300 with an abs light on the panel.
Plan to be repair it with a piece of tape over the light.
Looking for someone to tell me why ABS is worth
$2-3K on a $6k vehicle.
