hi all! i haven't been on club lexus for so long! it feels good to be back

about 5 months ago or so i posted about a shaky steering wheel and we concluded it to be that my rotors need to be machined. i did that, and now the shaking is back. i took it to a mechanic and they said they can't machine them anymore and that i need new ones. he said he couldve installed them today, but i didn't know if i should get whatever he gives me or buy something really good. if u had to pick, for a 99 lexus rx300 awd, what is the absolutely best rotor that will fit my car? whatever a rotor does, which is the absolute best that does what it was intended without being exorbitantly expensive? im doing this friday (appointment) along with my oil change and tire alignment, so unfortunately quick help would be much appreciated!!!

I put the Autozone specials with a 2 year warranty on the rear. So far so good. If they warp I'll just take them back. I would think your mechanic's house brand should come with some kind of warranty too.

At Autozone they run a whooping $33.99 a piece for the fronts.

Stock ones are a good choice at $79 a piece.

Brembos run $55 each from Tirerack. I'm sure they are very good quality pieces too.

Stock or Brembo = excellent quality.

Autozone = unknown quality but cheap and has a warranty for 2 years. (probably just fine though)


How much was he quoting you for rotors?

 

Get the OEM or the OEMish Brembo Rotor. Do not put some crap rotors in because you will most likely get a shaky steering wheel again, sooner then expected.

I would never put ANY parts from Autozone/Pepboys/Kraegan in my car.

My dad is a Mechanic and he doesn't even recommend it for foreign cars. American cars, yes.

absolutely not...that's why im asking what's the absolutely best rotors out there that do whatever they do the absolute best that aren't preposterously expensive! lol...any suggestions for top-of-the-line without being wallet-breaking?

 

Stock or Brembo are your answers. Both excellent quality. Both good value for the $. IMO

I would call it a wash. The factory puts enough into them to try to keep people from coming in all the time *****ing about warped rotors.

The word Brembo pretty much guarantees quality, at least at this level of performance.

Can't go wrong with either one.

There is an obvious reason for that censor, in order to keep this a civil and respectable establishment.

TunedRX300 I know has some comments on this, and I still plan to follow his advice and get some Rotora slotted rotors in the future. I have machined my rotors a few times as some of you have already seen in past posts.

are there different sizes? different 'styles'? different 'additions'? 'addons'?

Brembo part #25533 buy them from www.tirerack.com.

I would not screw around with dimples/slots/cross drilled etc on a daily driver unless you are going for style points. Most weaken the rotor and give it a good place to start cracking.

For high performance applications there are some performance benefits to the above. For a daily driver not much at all.




I gota try another word: Hennessey. A banned word over in the Viper forums. Gets censored like dropping an F-bomb.

Just get the cheapest brembos. Come on you have an SUV. Any Brembos would be good.
