I am considering upgrading the sound system in my 2002 RX and would be interested in what other owners have done. Also what hasn't worked to your expectations.

Check some other threads. I just put an amp in with a box. Much better than the stock sub which was pretty weak.

 

I was thinking about somehow mounting some more speakers on the rear pillars or across the top rear. Might have to design it myself.

 

I put 2- 8 inch RF Punch Z subs in the cargo area

i had a custom box built on each side, right behind the wheelwells
looks good, and sounds good

 

djjakesh, I plan on doing almost exactly what you've done...eventually. I've even talked with my local car audio shop about it. I wanted to put a 12" sub on the passenger side behind the wheelwell. Do you have any pics of your install?

Yeah, I remember seeing those. Now, that is one nice, clean, not-overdone install. Unfortunantly you can no longer get the full use of the cargo area with the seats folded down, but still...it's awesome!

 

According to the installer, the whole subwoofer/amp section
can be lifted up and disconnected easily. Note the latches
on the left and right?

It you need cargo space, just lift it up and place it sideways
and fold the rear seats.

 

Well, bust my buttons, that's the coolest thing since sliced bread! Who is the installer, or owner? It being removeable really makes it that much more impressive of a design.

Yeah, it is a very clean setup... I like it. Not like mine... I have a mess back there now...
