Anyone have any recommendations on snow chains for the Rex? I'm looking for ones that are easy to install. Where should I look, Pep Boys? Does Lexus sell any?
Lexus says DO NOT install snow chains on the rear due to very tight clearance with suspenion.
Owners manual says use chains ONLY on the front but when I challenged them about that being an extremely hazardous situation they agreed and recommended snow tires all around as an alternative.
It is NEVER a good idea to have more roadbed traction on the front than on the rear and snow chains only on the front would take this to potentially very hazardous level.
Im going on a trip to the mountains, and will need to use chains on my 4wd RX. snow tires is not an option as I live in Souther Ca. and will never need them again, should I put the chains in the front or back?
The above posts says don't use snow chains on the rear. But to never use only a pair of snow chains. All in all, snow chains are not suitable for the RX.
What type of all season tires are you running now?
I called a local so cal lexus dealer & all the dealers carry chains for the RX.. the next question is why they carry chains for the RX if its not recommended.. the parts guys says to put the chains on the front axle... I went to pep boys to get a better deal on the chains & the sales guy was addement (sp?) that on 4wd cars you HAVE to put them on the rear axle... argh.. what to do? I bought an SUV so that I can do these type of things... and I wanted my suxury as well... grrrr
