Default Heat footwell mode

Hi everybody,

when I turn the heat on in the footwell mode only, the vents located on the extreme sides of the dashboard blow hot air too. It doesn't seem right. The vents in the midde don't, which is correct.

Any suggestions?

Default Any suggestions...

Yeah, complain to lexus.

This has been a special "feature" of the lexus model line since the very beginning. I've never had anyone successfully explain just what this is about. When I bought my 92 LS in late 91 I quickly learned that the best thing to do is to manually close these outlets in the wintertime and not open them again until the spring.

Same problem with my 2000 GS and 2001 RX, close'm in the cold and open'em in the spring.

Thanks for suggestion, but they are useless to complain to.

Yes, I figured it out, to close those vents manually... Is this called a luxury car? I don't want to sound like a whining person, but this car starts resembling me a beautiful woman with some kind of problems in bed. I have had it for 4 months and every time I discover some kind of nuisances which I never saw even in the least expensive cars.

I will never understand why Ford can manage to make the simplest of things work correctly yet not be able to build a decent luxury car and lexus can build an absolutely outstanding model line of luxury vehicles and still get the simpler aspects WRONG!

Post Happens on other cars as well

I have noticed this on both my other cars as well (95 Sentra and 95 Civic). Hmm..perhaps it's a japanese thing!!

However one thing that is common on both these cars is that the force of air through the side-vents is very low.

It is normal. In addition to Lexus, my '99 Mercedes E320 also
does exactly the same thing. The middle vent shuts off to
prevent blowing warm air to your face. This is to prevent from
excess heat from making the driver drowsy during long drives...

For me, it does not look normal. Footwell mode is footwell mode, and the dashboard vents should not be activated. I agree that that the extreme vents don't blow the hot air with the same power ( in comparison when they are in foot and face mode), but they must be shut off completely.

Well, what can we do... accept the fact and close them till next summer.

This is not unique to Lexus, I have an accord and an Integra and they operate the same way.
