Default Hello from Florida

I just wanted to say hello to everyone. I stumbled across the forum as I was looking for some parts and decided to register on the forum. We've got a 1999Pearl with 250K miles that still drives incredibly.

I look forward to meeting and reading through the posts.

Big car guy, and am on the board at the CTS-V forums quite a bit too.

Welcome, this is a great site. I've learned plenty from the regular faithful who post here.

250K and still going strong is impressive. Have you owned it since new? I for one would love to hear how you've maintained the car to keep it running well for so long.

X2 on how you've taken care of the RX for 250K miles! I'm hoping to roll with my RX300 for years to come and she's got about 85K miles at the moment.

Welcome to CL. Though I live in Mexico City, I am a very proud Floridian, too. I also plan to hit that 250K mark (114k now) in the future. If there is anything you need, please free to ask.

I've been faithful (well fanatical, is more like it) with the oil changes use Mobile one, and timing belts...and while I can't say it is the exact reason, I use a filter mag as I do on all my cars and I can't complain about the results.

It is starting to show some age on the interior and exterior (she's about a "10-15 footer")and have convinced myself to put some money into giving her a refresh.

I had an 84 CRX I sold with 325k miles on it for $1500, although I think the RX is going to go well beyondthat (fingers crossed).

My wife drives it more than I do - and she drives it pretty hard (about 120 miles a day). Been very amazed to be completely honest, but very satisfied.

Will post some pix soon...

I'll bet that leather *is* getting a bit ragged. This place does custom leather interiors and they'll also sell you just the bits if you just want to do parts of seats, I'm guessing the driver's seat bolsters are in need of some refreshment.

Ok, so here is where I show how little I know about cars.

What are "filter mag"? What are they suppose to do and how do you use them?

Filtermag is a very strong magnet that you put on the outside of the oil filter that keeps metal shavings in the oil from getting out of the filter. It can keep your oil cleaner longer. Kinda spendy but it seems to work for me.

Is this the one you are referring to? http://www.filtermag.com/

I was think fuel line magnets when I first heard about this.

I might be willing to give this one a try on mine (just did my oil change last Saturday though) to compare by opening up the oil filters.

Actually, of bigger concern and TunedRX300 knows worlds more about this than I do, is attaching an external tranny filter, which I think is an excellent idea given all of our discussions on the tranny pan and other things that wind up in our ATF fluid.

LexMex, that's exactly what I was talking about.
We've got one on our Acura and Cadillac as well.
