Default Secret Weapon Intake

Does anybody here actually have this? Can you post some pics up? I wanna get the idea of how it looks installed. Is there noticable HP gains/performance?

I cannot remember an RX300 with it (though I once had the dragon intake which is different), but I think truplaya26 with an ES300 has one of these, see http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2401731

Personally, I think it is the best production intake on the market from those that I have read about and it seems a step above the dragon I use to have in terms of its design.

Wondering if it's worth the $200+ and if it actually fits perfectly wo/ any modification. I know people were having trouble fitting the Dragon intake on the RX.

Should not be a problem to fit, I can help you if needed.

I recommended it to a few other people, there are a couple of other smog legal steps we can take afterwards to improve the design concept. I know TunedRX300 will join us on that one.

This seller has it for pretty cheap. They even have the Cold Air Box. Does that airbox just go over the Secret Weapon filter? Is it used in conjunction?

It goes inside the airbox. I actually thought about getting this combo well over a year ago before I modified everything, but the air box ended up taking way too long...sat on the wait list forever. There were several members years back who had this combination.

What do you think? Worth the $300+? I dont mind paying as long as the gains are noticable. The only thing I'm worrying about is the amount of debris that might make it to my engine. Who are the members who had this setup? I'd love to get some feedback.

Running that system without the box does not seem like a good idea because you are pulling hot air directly into your intake.

I would not worry about debris since you will have an air filter, I don't

Some members from way back, I think 2002-2003, I would have to look to tell you as I have not seen them on the board in a long time. A few even had pictures of the setup.

As to whether it is worth it...you won't receive the gains that I or TunedRX300 got on our systems, simply because it is not a ram air system, but it will be about halfway between stock and what TunedRX300 and I have.

I could not give you an exact number, but I would say just by sensation compared to other mods where sometimes they indicated a given amount of hp, 10+ hp.

I agree with TunedRX300 an hksimpson, too. Plastic, especially from PCV mods does a way better job.

The best thing that can give regarding the air box (it ain't bad though) is that it takes air in on the far side, and from my experience using that cookng pot heat shield you have seen in my mods, the inside (even though it is not even enclosed like the air box) does not seem have any heat on the interior...same goes for my metal tube from Weapon-R.

Still, you cannot beat plastic.

The bad thing, in my case, with the stock air box, is that it did not seal tightly, probably a little warpage over the years, and I remember when I had it and the first few times I went to the track, I figured out I had to wrap the middle of it with duct tape to avoid the heat getting in.

Lexmex,
Thermotec has heat reflective tapes that shield metal box and tubes from engine heat. http://www.thermotec.com/products/full/14002/14002.html
For your racing application, every little edge counts

That is a good idea.

I might be interestd in getting some of those wraps for the exhaust, at least until Megan Racing and friends decide to come out with the 1MZFE headers.

I might try to reapproach Xerd to see if they could fabricate those long tube headers, only I hope without the issues that Solara had in the customer service area.
