Unhappy Trailer Hitch Cover Swiped

After 4 years, my RX300 logo trailer hitch cover was swiped this morning. Any replacement ideas? I see Toyota and other logo ones for sale that go deep enough to lock in.

Easiest replacement method in the book:

Steal it back from the guy that stole it or the first truck you see that has one.

That is very wrong. Just buy one from Lexus for $20. Or buy a hitch cover with your favorite sports team.

If it's the black rubber plug, go visit your dealer's parts department and see if they have any "lying around". They usually do, because they often fall out in the car wash. You'd get a used one obviously, but it would cost you nothing.

Or, you might choose to buy a nicer one that's long enough to also add a locking pin.

well i bought a hitch brake light from walmart for about $9, but it only lights up when i turn on the parking/head lights and it doesnt respond to the brakes. i guess the brake light only works on domestic trucks?

Yes indeed, but I never said anyone had to witness your "taking back" of the hitch cover.

So if there is a wtiness, what would one stoop to, murder? See the slipery slope one gets on, once one takes an illegal/immoral turn.

I assume miniround's post was in jest, but if you look at the CL culture, people show humor, but they write their sober thoughts in the post or edit it as soon as possible.

Instead of continuing the volley back and forth, this would be my last post on this subject. I think I have made my view point clear and you may or may not agree.

I bought a red stoplight plug in from Harbor Freight for $5. It has wiring and a plug, but I never bothered to plug it in.

Another idea - go to your dealer and ask the parts guy about replacing the original black rubber Lexus hitch plug. They supposedly fall out in the car wash "all the time", so they have a box full of used ones. If you don't mind a used one, they might just give it to you for free!

I wound up getting a plain 100% black plastic hitch cover at Walmart. Actually, it has a faint "Reese" imprint if you get really close. It's lockable and now locked on with a hitch lock. Overkill maybe, but I'm big on overkill.

I should look into getting the Walmart hitch cover. The super blow dryers in my car wash routinely blow my Lexus hitch cover off. The attendant has to stop the whole operation and look for the cover each time.
