Transmission problem
My Wife has a cpo 2001 RX 2- wheel drive with 99000 miles on it about a month ago we left a stop light and it started to jerk then it done it 3 more times that day. I called the Lexus in Raleigh and they were booked until Tuesday. So I called Hendrick Lexus in Charlotte and made an Appointment. They called me back and they really can't tell nothing until they changed the fluid I told them I had it changed at 75k so they gave their sad story so I said go ahead and change it. So after 2 weeks my wife said it was jerking again when leaving a stop light or stop sign then when I got home That sat. it done it on me so I made another appointment for Tues. So as I was taking it down there It jerked on me 2 times. So I got the loaner car and the girl from the service dept. felt it. So I knew right then their was a problem so the next day the tech called and said he couldn't find nothing. So I told him it felt like it was starting to slip and he said that if it was slipping the check engine light would come on I told him he was full of S@#$. So he said he can't do anything without knowing the problem. I told him ask the girl in the service depart. she felt it slipping to. My question is if the Transmission is starting to slip does any kind of lights come on and if it is starting to slip how often does it jerk when starting from a stop sign or stop light. Thanks
If they were just going to drain the fluid, that won´t help identify the problem. It would be easier for one to check the dipstick to look at the fluid. There could be an accumulation of material in the bottom of your tranny pan and/or tranny filter that can better indicate a problem.
The CEL can come on, but I know in many vehicles it often won´t until the actual point of complete tranny failure. So the mechanic is incorrect.
Often with a transmission problem, the car could simply turn off rather than jerk in your case. You turn in back on and might have no issue until next instance of jerking.
