The seats in my 99 RX 300 are heated. The driver's side seems to get very warm, cool down, then get very warm again, then cool down, repeating the cycle. I was in my dad's Buick with heated seats the other day, and they stayed a nice constant temp.
Yes, that is normal.
There seems to be a regulator that turns them off and on at certain temperatures.
The '99 and '00 RX300's only have an on/off switch, so something like that is necessary to avoid getting too hot. In '01, they came out with a high/low/off switch which gives you a little more control. In the RX330, they finally went to an analog **** that is fully adjustable.
On my '00 RX 300 I had the same problem - it was most pronounced when wearing light clothing. Although I love the heated seats and wouldn't be without them, these carried "heat" to a new level. I occassionally expected to find grill marks on my nether region.
The 330, with its fully adjustable control is much nicer. I wonder if the control is the only difference, or if there is a thermostat in the heating element itself. What would be required for a swap, or is it even possible?
