I have been informed about the differences in RX's that amont other packages there is one - GOLD (GOLDEN). Does anyone know the specifics regarding this classification?

It replaces all of the standard chrome exterior badges (Lexus logo on grille and back door, word "Lexus", and the model name) with gold-plated versions.

 

I once had the gold package on mine, but the gold faded quite badly, especially on the center rim caps that I removed all of the gold and went badgeless.

 

The "gold package" is primarily an opportunity for the dealer to line his pockets with YOUR gold.

If you can't live without it, try marking the position of your lexus badges with masking tape and debadging your Lex with dental floss slipped between the badge and the body. Krylon or other spray paints are available that will produce a fair replica of the "gold" finish if applied carefully. On the wheel caps, try applying liquid "Friskit" to the areas you DON'T want to paint as a masking medium. After drying, peel off the friskit and reapply the badges with 3M tape or body adhesive. See? With a couple hours work you've saved yourself about $1,495!

Seriously, more reasonably priced Lexus emblems are available in the aftermarket in a variety of colors, with a durable finsh. If you are considering them, check pricing by some of our vendors who make them available.

The gold badges look good with some paint colors - less so with others. One of the best combos I've seen is the Black Pearl emblems on a black car.
