Question Has anyone lowered their RX300.

What system do you recommend? I have a 2002 Rx300 and I want to put one 18's and lower it. The car looks great but I think it looks funny with the little wheels.

If you have FWD, go for TEINS Wagon Damper coilover. Some lowered with Eibach and no one can tell any difference.

Question What about all wheel drive models?

The way it is now, I could smuggle a moose from Canada, in my wheel

TEINS coilover is only for FWD, no AWD application yet

You don't want spring, coilover is better

Look for Harrier 3.0 FWD, you have to find a dealer that is willing to import for your RX300. Price is about $1000 shipped via sea.

Tuned,

You have definitely better experience in this area of my RX than I do, but I have heard that using lowering springs can hurt the suspension of the car. I was actually thinking about using different rims and shorter sidewall tires. What is your experience and opinion on this?

If you keep the stock shock and just replace a stiffer spring, the shock will have a lesser life since it is not designed to handle these additional bounces. That is why you see a lot of people upgrade to sport shocks when they lower their cars with sport springs. Coilover is a spring and shock combo coiled over, they are designed by the same company so shocks should not wore out prematurely. There is a thread in GS forum that explained why coilover is superior, but adjustability, lower drop, and spring/shock designed together by one company rank high on my list.

i've lowered my rx with the eibach springs and the ride is stiffer. you can notice the difference in ride height tho it's subtle as it's only a 1.2" drop. it's more aethetically pleasing imho. i know that the stock shocks will probably wear out prematurely but so far they seem ok...i've had the springs for over a year, mebbe 2 now...i plan on replacing the shocks eventually...i know eibach, trd, tom's, and espilir make springs and maybe a couple more folks out there...good luck in your search...

With my roads and their problems here in Mexico City, I was going to the wait until I return to the states to do anything with tires and springs.

We have a lot of guys who never make it to the track on the weekend, simply because on the way up there a new short sidewall tire went flap or a suspension piece came out. More likely do the bad installation and parts selection in some cases.

The other reason I don't want to do anything is that I am still toying with my exhaust and my turbo RX idea (with the turbo underneath the middle of the car). I need the car off the ground to accomplish this.

The thing I want to do this weekend is redo my exhaust. U joint from the back of the cat with twin 2.5 pipes coming out at the back. and they will look like just a twin exhaust tip separated by 1 inch. Two straight sections of 3 inch pipes will serve as short resonators. The muffler is getting scrapped unless it is way to loud. A friend did this with his Grand Cherokee and it is suprisingly quiet for the setup. Seems down here they have a tough time bending 3 inch pipe so I am just going to split it.

If I can get this done, I will let you know how it goes.

I finished install H&R Sport spring and Bilstein Sport shock for my Acura. No air tools, just spring compressor loaned from Autozone and hand tools. I have to say H&R's 100% made in Germany spring is great. Still waiting for someone to make a coilover for AWD but if my RX's shocks worn out I would definitely go for H&R spring.

After deciding to change where I would mount my turbo in very likely upcoming plans (we will have discussion on CL soon about the idea I have), I still have to think twice about springs though I was looking at the following: B+G, TTE, Eibach, Intrax, KG/MM (these really lower the RX more than any other I have seen), H&R. Also need to check into AWD applications.
