What we hope is that the noise is not associated with engine gel/sludge and that then noise is an engine part screaming for lubrication. Definitely, the noise is loudest beneath the engine, at idle, and increases in pitch with RPM. We do not observe any smoke exiting from the exhaust pipe, nor any check engine light and the temp gauge is at normal, even on a 100F day. I am writing to the Lexus dealer in Eugene to follow this thread.
When my engine failed no extra noise. As for smoke or whatever, your exhaust will have an excessive black build-up on the inside edges if it's burning oil and you will notice DEFINATE oil consumption. These are some of the symptoms of sludge. In 2200 miles, my engine oil went from brand new and full to below the level of reading on the dipstick and black. What happened to me is the oil pick up was plugged with sludge and couldn't properly lubricate so it threw the rod furthest from the oil pick up. Flex pipe is common issue, easy to inspect and see if that is the problem......
