Default How much do you get to a tank of gas? Fuel Level marker/float issue

Hey All:

Hey Peeps:

Was wondering how many miles a typical tank of gas under city driving standards one gets? My RX fuel marker guage is reading at 3/4 full when it was filled to the brim with gas the other day. I'm assuming/hoping the fuel light comes on and if it does - how many miles could one expect after the light comes on (I'm thinking like 20 max.)?

From past knowledge of such an issue, I believe the float in the gas tank has to be removed, fixed or hopefully fixes itself...

Thanks.

KF

Thumbs down 2 Gallons Left

Bummer, a bum fuel level return. I'm not sure how the system in the RX300 works, but my '98 Accord had the same problem and it was with some fuel pressure sensor deal that went. Anyhow, the light should work fine to tell you when it becomes low, so you should be safe. As for how much fuel is left, when my light comes on, I still have a good 2 gallons left in the tank.

I have a '99, which I believe has the same 17.9 gal. tank. It wasn't until '01 that the tank increases to 19+ gallons. With 2 gallons left, and typical city mileage of 17 mpg, you'd figure to get a good 34 miles. Enough to easily get you to the next gas station, even if you're on the highway. Unless your in the middle of the desert in Nevada.

The Accord sensor set me back $250, I'd imagine the Lexus would be higher than this to fix. If you don't care that it doesn't show FULL when you're filled, then forget fixing it. The only thing I don't know is if this misreading will throw off the MPG calculations of the car on the display.

Anyway, hope this is helpful.

Default Thx Mhc

Thanks for the info. This better be covered under the std. dealer warranty for electronics as I just bought this truck.. Otherwise, I'll scream at the Dealer (non-Lexus) until it's fixed, hoping they will honor the warranty at their same family of Dealerships at their Toyota store closer-by me.

Default Sometimes you get lucky

After one more fill-up to the brim, the needle got unstuck, fixing itself somehow and now registers up to the F line on the gauge vs. at 3/4. Lucky for me for a change.

Smile Excellent

That's great to hear. Was your RX new, used, or CPO? I read about you thinking it will be under warranty. Anyway, glad it got unstuck. Mine never did. It would just be at 3/4 and after a few miles of driving it would eventually go to full, but then drop back down.

Good thing for bumpy roads and getting needles unstuck.
