The last couple of mornings when I first start my 1999 RX300 and move the shift lever from PARK to REVERSE, the engine dies immediately. It starts up immediately afterwards. This has never happened before. This morning each time I shifted into reverse it died immediately. I started it three times one after the other and finally revved the engine slightly and shifted into reverse and released the brake pedal and backed out of the garage and drove off.
Do any of you have any idea what all of a sudden is causing this problem?
Ive never had this problem. But I have seen it listed here before. If you do a search on this web page. I believe you will find that it may be the idle control assembly. I seems like it is a fairly common problem on the RX.
Sounds like the Idle Air Control Valve may the the problem. I have never experienced this particular problem on any other brand of vehicle and I have owned 36 different ones through the years.
Only had one of those vehicles to have to replace a starter at 94,000 miles and it happened to be a 1996 Toyota 4Runner. 1997 Toyota Avalon had to have the whole rack and pinion steering box replaced because it started leaking at 71,000 miles. First and only vehicle so far I've ever had a power steering leak.
