Question

Getting an RX300 with a navigation system wasn't really an option for me, because the dealers in my area don't usually order them. I travel pretty frequently, and this past weekend I really could have used the navi system. Has anyone added an aftermarket navi system to their RX (or other Lexus)? I was looking at the Alpine units and the seem very nice. I'm just not sure where I'd mount it. Thanks in advance!

i haven't put one in mine, and haven't hear of anyone who has yet...sorry. If I find out anything I will post some info. I'm not sure, either, where a good place would be to mount an aftermarket nav.

It would fit perfectly where the sun roof is... but there is a sun roof there, LOL. The Alpine NVE-N851A is the best nav system I have seen. It just seems that finding a place to mount it is the main problem. I can't stand cars that look cheap, and I want to make sure if I get this nav system everything will fit together nicely.

Default where can I find the alpine

and I feel the same way with the tasteless look, I hate it, all those teenagers in their two-bit cars where the accesories costed the triple the amount of the car itself. Well anyway, maybe I could find a spot for it on my LX?

Michael,

I agree with others. The Alpine DVD-based
system is the only one that comes close to the
stock Lexus system.

On the other hand, there is a portable unit made
by Garmin. It's the StreetPilot III, which comes with
a color screen and voice navigation. Street price
$850 to $950...

http://www.garmin.com/products/spIII/index.html

The coverage is pretty decent and you download the
area you need from a CD-ROM to the unit. I'm planning
to get one from my other car.(after driving with my
RX with Nav, I don't know how to look at maps
anymore...

Exactly, I feel the same way whenever I even think of doing anything to my car. I takes me forever to do anything because I want to make sure that the fit and finish/quality is the best. It HAS to look right...bar none!

Default I did an ALPINE NAV. W/CVA1005

I was able to fit the CVA1005 into the dash and put the brain under the front seat. The DVD was put in the tire well. A metal plate to house the cig lighter and Heater switches had to be made. Works great!

Thumbs up

Wow is right, that is a cool setup. You must have AWD because if you didn't you would have to deal with the TRAC control switch. Do you have any more pictures that show off you wood trim kit, from what I see it is a nice kit. Also, what kind of floor mats are those up front? I see many people use those type. I always liked keeping the OEM one's in b/c it looks better, but those don't look half bad, moreover they will protect the carpet.

jmezo,
Nice job with the installation. I currently drive a jeep grand cherokee in which I installed the alpine nav system. The one thing that I am going to miss with the alpine system when I buy my rx 300 is that the lexus nav doesn't cover canada. Since I live in Buffalo, NY I travel to Toronto quite frequently. Did you end up hooking a DVD and a tuner into the head unit? If you did hook up a DVD and tuner to the head unit, how where you able to wire in the sound. Thanks,
Neil

Hey LexRX go to www.autoanything.com and click on wood trim, then go to the sale section, fill in your make and model and they have a quite a few wood trim kits for the RX. Also the floor matis there, its the husky floor mat.
